Both the Negative Trait and Positive Trait Thesauri are amazing. Probably one of the most useful writing resources I've ever purchased. I bought the Negative Trait one ages ago and then avoided it because it seemed like a lot of work to consider your characters this way. Then I bought the PT one and started working. It is a bit of hard work. But completely worth it. Once you know who your characters are, you can create scenes that are directed by their instincts and behavior and not just write a bunch of random stuff happening to them. How can you challenge a character that you don't understand?These books saved my current WIP, which ground to a halt recently when I ran out of horrible random things to do to my characters. Now that I've read and used these books, I can let my characters screw things up on their own and if I need to come up with external torture for them, I now understand what will thoroughly wreck their day :)I am so impressed with these books. I highly recommend them if you're a writer and you're willing to do the work to make your characters three-dimensional and engaging.

The Negative Trait Thesaurus talks about using traits to deepen your characterization to help your reader become emotionally invested in them. They use a similar format as the Emotion Thesaurus by defining the characteristic, listing similar attributes, possible causes and associated behaviors. I haven’t used these as thoroughly as I should, mostly because when I bought them I was in the middle of writing something I’d already developed characters for, but I’m in the beginning of a new project and I intend to make full use of it.

I'm writing the same review for the book 'positive trait thesaurus' and 'negative trait thesaurus' as they are equal in quality and usefulness:I don't believe there is any reason to write anything more until you have purchased these books!Unless you have a masters in psychology maybe you won't need them. Even so, I believe it would be a good quick reference.These books hand writers the tools they need to understand the complex nature of their characters psychology.These books will give you a clear cause and effect to every personality trait your character has, giving you a more indepth understanding of your own character, which will in turn give your reader a more in depth understanding of your character and be more involved in your story.Unless you enjoy torturing yourself and making life harder on yourself:A must have.

If you want your readers to interact with the characters in yourstories, or writings,they must feel like real people, good or bad.Because, a reader wants to cheer for,or boo at the people, youwant them to spend their time with.If a reader can not relate to your protagonist, or even your antagonistfor that matter, they will wonder, why are they even bothering finishingyour story.Harsh?Yes it is, but it is your job, to make characters as real as possible, byshowing, not listing, what makes them what and who they are.Good guys and bad guys, all have traits that make them take the road thatthey travel.Show those traits to your readers.

They show you how characters are the story and how to develop them for maximum effect in your own book.The first part of the book states that everyone is damaged, and the more emotionally traumatic the better. They tell you why negative traits, wounds and flaws are essential for character arcs, how to build them, and how they can be fit to make the journey harder and more meaningful. They also cover that people who are wounded form lies they believe (Ex. I'll never be a good mother.), which stems from one of the five basic needs. (Sorry, too long to list.)The second part lists flaws alphabetically. They cover definition, similar flaws, possible causes, associated behaviors and attitudes, associated thoughts, associated emotions, positive aspects, negative aspects, examples from film, overcoming this trait as a major flaw, and traits in supporting characters that may cause conflict. I read through each flaw and was surprised when my characters became fleshed out in my head. I knew what they were thinking and what caused it.We can all think of various flaws we want our characters to have (selfish, stubborn, reckless, etc.), but it is invaluable to have ALL the flaws listed out, so you can find the one your brain forgot, under that pile bills and junk mail, that adds the critical pulse to your character and brings your story to life.You might even find yourself identifying with flaws and eagerly turning to 'Overcoming this trait as a major Flaw'. It's like a mini therapy session. Acknowledge and correct.All in all, this book is worthy of a spot on your shelf, if just for having a complete list of flaws at your fingertips. I also highly recommend their other two books: The Emotion Thesaurus and The Positive Trait Thesaurus.

When writing action scenes or dialogue of a character affected with negative behaviors, attitudes, thoughts and emotions, "The Negative Traits Thesaurus" is a welcome resource. Angela Ackerman's experience as a counselor in psychotherapy really comes through. She gives a wide range of personality examples that will fit with most circumstances. Even if it's just a simple word or two to an otherwise well written piece, the flaws she describes adds depth and vision to a troubled character. The salt, the spice on the meat. I will admit I am no Mechanic. But, that is exactly why this book comes in handy. This book has great "General" information to help take apart and replace many components. With that being said, if you have experience working on/with vehicles, you probably will not gain a whole lot out of a book like this. I can see how someone with considerable knowledge with mechanics wouldn't gain much from owning this piece of information. However, for someone like me, with very limited experience, this definitely has served as a resource. That and fullsizebronco.com, haha.

I needed information for dual fuel tank systems and this book had it

I have a Chilton's manual that I bought when I had my old mustang. It covers '87-93 Mustangs and was an INVALUABLE resource when I had that car. In fact, I continue to reference it frequently when I'm doing work on my '87 Thunderbird, because it's based off the same chassis and many things are similar. I bought a Hayne's manual for my Thunderbird and I hated it, so I went back to the Chilton's for most reference.So, when I bought my '94 F-250 diesel, I figured a Chilton's would be a good investment.Boy was I wrong!For starters, my truck is a 7.3L IDI Turbo diesel, which was produced in '93 and '94. There is not even a MENTION of this engine in this book. It jumps straight from the naturally aspirated 6.9/7.3 IDI, to the Powerstroke. Now, granted, the Turbo IDI is pretty similar to the n/a IDI, but some mention of the turbo system or something would have been nice.From there it gets worse. I can't believe the amount of detail that is nowhere to be found in this book. As another reviewer mentioned, this thing completely omits anything about the fuel filters on the IDI engines. Then, later on in the book, it skips over many other topics. It describes how to remove the instrument cluster, but doesn't specify which model year it's talking about, and includes several unnecessary steps while leaving out necessary ones (I removed mine with help from some folks on a message board). No instructions on how to remove the headlights or marker lights are present anywhere in this book...only how to change the headlight bulbs. The exploded assembly diagram for the 4WD front suspension is smaller than a 3x5 index card and it's impossible to make out any detail. Things like this should have at least half a page dedicated to them! And that's just what came across for things I've been trying to do on my truck so far.I don't even understand how you could produce a repair manual that was lacking this many important details.

I bought this as a reference manual on a resto-modification of a truck I've inherited. This is a good basic overview of one of America's most produced and popular vehicles. This manual is nothing short of a bible when it comes to F-150's. Like all chilton manual's, the book is divided into chapter sections that cover specific vehicle systems. it covers a variety of set ups (straight 6, V8's, 2WD, 4WD). Some things are better explained than the others, but on the whole, this is an excellent book to work on your vehicle with. Pictures help with showing the reader and technician the parts and procedures in question. Again some things are better than others. On the whole I would recommend this book

I purchased this book to help with repairs to my truck. However I feel its a waste of money. I have tried looking up two issues that I have, one with fuel system and one with air bag sensors, and found no help from this book. This book covers way to many years, and types of trucks such as diesel trucks, fuel injected gas trucks, carburetor gas trucks, etc... You think your getting a thick book full of information about your truck, but half or more of the information will most likely not have anything to do with your vehicle. When you do find something that covers your vehicle, the information is vague and doesn't show enough step by step instruction on how to do. Most people using this book will need detailed instructions. If they know what they are doing, they would not need the book. I wish I had never wasted my money on this item and as its wrapped in clear plastic, once you open it and find you don't like it, its then used and not returnable. Very disappointing item to me.

I'm sure this is really helpful to mechanics, but for me just beginning to learn about repairs ... This is not very helpful as I need more instructions. I will be keeping this because I will be learning more along the way with the help of friends who know more about repairs than I do.

The book was good, but have had better, more detailed. Some of the photo's were lacking. Didn't compliment Chilton's good name... Then I found out my husband already had one, but now I have one for my truck. I was going to give three stars, but due to the nature of the book, I was generous.

Has some stuff that Haynes doesn't have in it, but I prefer Haynes more honestly

A lot of the book is self explanatory but the few times I was stumped, this book payed for itself. I use my truck daily so don't have the convenience of waiting to figure things out. The detailed diagrams and explanations were great.

Very good introduction to business law, which also includes chapters on the constitution, criminal law, and torts. In conjunction with a good professor or the curiosity necessary to Google complex topics and cases, this book will tell you everything you need to know to have a passing knowledge of the legal and regulatory issues facing businesses in America.

This book is easy to use. It is one of the most organized and well laid out classroom books I have used so far in my studies. I rented it to save money from having to buy it but if I could afford to buy it I would just to have it as a reference for the future.
